The Reverend Courtney Jamal Mackey experienced the power of God at a young age. He is the third of five sons born on August 30, 1989 to Clarence (Jr.) and Karen Mackey.
Pastor Mackey was ordained an Itinerant Deacon at the 115th Session of the Central Annual Conference of the Eleventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in September of 2014 by Bishop Adam Jefferson Richardson, Jr.
Pastor Mackey received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Organizational Management from Edward Waters College on May 12, 2014. He later received his Master of Divinity Degree on May 13, 2017 from the Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA where he is the Past President of the Turner Student Fellowship and also Past President of the Student Christian League.
Pastor Mackey was the Assistant Pastor of Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in downtown Atlanta, GA from January 2015 to November 2017 under the leadership of both Rev. Dr. Gregory Vaughn Eason, Sr. and Rev. Isaiah Juran Waddy, respectively.
On Thursday, October 5, 2017, Pastor Mackey was ordained an Itinerant Elder at the 118th Session of the Central Annual Conference of the Eleventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
On Friday, November 17, 2017, Pastor Mackey was assigned as the new Senior Pastor of New Mount Olive A.M.E. Church of Avon Park, FL. Pastor Mackey’s vision was for the church to “Climb Higher in God Together”. Each disciple was challenged to help create an atmosphere were everyone, who chooses to worship, may find Safety, Peace and Clarity in God’s presence through Innovative Worship, Prophetic Empowerment and Radical Hospitality.
Under Pastor Mackey’s leadership, the membership increased from 90 members to over 140 members (50 new members) and the weekly attendance tripled.
Pastor Mackey reinstated the “Vision Sharers” ministry (class leader system). Pastor Mackey brought new fresh leadership to the New Mount Olive Church. Under his leadership, he led the church in upgrading all musical equipment (Keyboard, Drums, Microphones).
Under Pastor Mackey’s leadership he led NMO in repairing the roof of the sanctuary building, installing new lighting in the sanctuary and multipurpose building, adding screens for worship, launched a church website, online giving, and led the church in a $100,000 renovation project to the sanctuary building and parsonage.
In the fall of 2019 Pastor Mackey ventured out on a new journey and is currently pursuing a PhD at Capella University in Leadership for Higher Education program.
On Friday, October 25, 2019, Pastor Mackey was transferred to the Atlanta North Annual Conference of the Sixth Episcopal District (State of Georgia) of the A.M.E. Church where he now serves as the Executive Pastor/Chief Operating Officer at St. Paul A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Senior Pastor Isaiah J. Waddy.
Pastor Mackey continues to remain humble, even tempered and committed to the work God has called him to do as he ventures on this journey in ministry.
